Conservation procedures strive to stop or at least slow the degradation of the furniture's structure and surfaces. Original materials, including the original finish, must be retained.

Treatments include very careful cleaning practices and the use of reversible adhesives and protective coatings.

Maruyama used phosphorescent paint as part of the design.
